iOS safari cannot open the page because the address is invalid

I can open a link in my email on my mac laptop, but when trying to click on the same link in my iPhone I get the following error message:

safari cannot open the page because the address is invalid

Those are all good culprits.

As I worked on it, I discovered that there was a community app that I had to install in order to use the links. The text of the Safari error message distracted me from getting to that solution. Once I installed the app, the links worked with no trouble.

The website is not optimized for mobile viewing
You may be running a VPN that is causing the website to not open. - VPN settings overview for Apple devices - Apple Support
There may be Screen Time or Parental restrictions on your iPhone. - Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
