Apple music playing every time I connect via Bluetooth to my car

I am bringing up an old question because I have not yet seen an answer to it. I have an iPhone 13 and every time I connect to Bluetooth in my car, because I want to hear some thing like an article being read to me or maybe it’s YouTube, II have to listen to apple music at the same time as the article or whatever app I’m trying to listen to ! if I pause the music player then everything gets paused, I don’t even have the app open when this happens and there’s no way to shut it off as soon as I swipe to close that music playing app and start to listen to my story again it turns back on. I don’t even use Apple Music but I have two songs on my phone. What is going on that there’s no way to control what is played through Bluetooth? Do I seriously had to delete the songs on my phone in order to prevent this? I should be able to use Bluetooth for whatever I want.

iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 16

Hello woodfiredpizza,

If you make sure the Music app is closed before you connect your iPhone to your vehicle’s Bluetooth connection, does it still play the songs?

If not, please give these troubleshooting steps a try from How to connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your car - Apple Support:

Connect using bluetooth
1. Restart your device.
2. Go to Settings > bluetooth and turn off bluetooth. Wait for about 5 seconds, then turn bluetooth back on.
3. Check the manual that came with your car for more information about how to pair with a bluetooth device. Most cars require a phone setup on the car display.
4. If you've connected multiple phones to your car stereo, try renaming your device: Go to Settings > General > About > Name and type a new name. Then try connecting again.
5. Update your device.
6. Make sure your stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information.

Step 6 is pretty important since most people keep their devices up to date. Your car’s stereo firmware may be in need of one too.

Speaking of updating, Apple provided iOS 16.4 yesterday. You can see if updating your iPhone resolves the issue you’re having: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Please let us know the results when you're able.

Cheers!
