Photos downloaded from icloud is not transferring correct meta data. Ie Date created and Date modified are the same.

Why is this happening and how can I get my photos to download with the correct Date created date? So what's happening is for example, I took a photo May 2005. I need the correct date the photo was taken, because I need it as evidence in a case. However when I try and download these photos from icloud they are downloaded with all metadata showing as the date it was downloaded. If the metadata at least showed the original creation date as 5-2005 and the date modified as 3-2023 then that would be ok, but it's not even acknowledging the original creation date. Apple what's up with that? Can someone please help?

Thank you,

Amanda F.

Hello MandyRises,

When exporting the photo from the Photos app on the Mac, you may choose to export the unmodified original (Select the photo in the Photos app > File > Export > Export Unmodified Original).

Once the image is located in Finder, open within Preview and choose Tools > Show Inspector. A small window will appear, and you may click the (i) tab, and the photo's metadata should be visible here in the Exif section.

Cheers.
