Ventura 13.3 broke my screensaver--

Upgraded last night. Now screen saver won't appear on the main display, just on the extended display. After a while, the words "No Picture" appear on the main display.

I have tried the Safe Boot and have even reinstalled Ventura from the Recovery Mode. The issues, as I understand them, are that my external monitor no longer shows in Screensaver Settings, but does under Wallpaper Settings. Secondly, using the Activity Monitor, I noted that, after leaving the screensaver mode "iLife Slideshows (Screensaver)" is shown as an activity for a few seconds, then disappears. It is activated by "Launchd" when I mouse over to the hot corner to activate the screensaver. The screensavers are controlled on my iMac under Ventura/System/Library/Screensavers. That folder is protected within the System, so I can't use Time Machine to replace it with a previous working folder.

I read all the other comments concerning this fault after the update to Ventura 13.3, all happening with external monitors. So I don't feel alone. If I disconnect my 27 inch AOC external monitor, the problem goes away and the iMac shows my photos just fine. I wrote up a bug report and anticipate there will eventually be a fix, just as there was previously with Big Sur.

My external monitor is connected via a Thunderbolt to DisplayPort cable. I have found that to use TimeMachine to recover files, I have to disconnect or switch off the external monitor. That may be the source of the problem.

So now, my photos are shown as Wallpaper and iTunes/Music Albums are shown as a Screensaver. Such is life.

After updating to Ventura 13.3, my Mac will flicker black twice during startup. Once during the loading bar after the Apple logo appears, and again about 7 seconds after reaching the login screen. Have you experienced this issue as well?

Shutting down and restarting more than once is always advised after any upgrade or update...

If you have an ongoing issue— try reinstalling the macOS on top of the existing macOS

Same here! I have two monitors using the Classic screensaver and up until the 13.3 upgrade I would see photos on both screens. Now just the right screen shows a photo. I can occasionally see photos on the left screen when I trigger the screen saver manually but it is rare.

I should add:

Screen Saver works properly the first time it's summoned after a startup or reboot. Every subsequent attempt to run it results in proper behavior on the extended monitor, black screen on the main monitor, and after a bit the words "No Photos" (not No Picture, sorry) appear in white in the middle and sit there, unmoving. Which is not the best failure mode for a screensaver, I gotta say.

I had a similar issue, but in my case, the secondary display stopped showing the screensaver. Note that I had my MacBook Pro disconnected from my dock when I did the Ventura 13.3 update. The next day, I connected my Mac to my dock (which also has my secondary display connected) and noticed the issue. My secondary display eventually just displayed No Photos. I tried restarting my Mac and the first time I initiated the screensaver, the secondary display showed the screensaver, but on subsequent initiations, it did not.

I'm using the Fliqlo screensaver and my LG 24" Ultrafine display set as main screen.

I had set the screensaver to show on both displays. Now it only shows on the built in display, I guess at the size it wants to show it on the larger display?

Prior to this update, it had been showing on both displays just fine.

When using the Mac alone, the screensaver appears just fine.

Glad it's not just me. The screensaver I'm running is one I wrote, Folder Crazy (it's on armpitstudios dot com). Now that I'm on 13.3, it stopped running on the main screen (Studio Display), and usually works on display 2 (Thunderbolt Display), but not always.

I added some more logging to my code. The initWithFrame:isPreview: method is usually called for both screens, but sometimes not 1. But startAnimation is now never called for screen 1.

I wonder if they only broke legacy screensavers (those that run in the process called legacyScreenSaver).

Yes, I confirm the same symptoms, and them some.

I am also using Fliqlo version 1.8.5 on my 16" M1 MBP.

External monitors are a Philips PHL223V5, and a Lenovo D22e-20.

Prior to this update, Fliqlo worked just fine on all three displays.

With the external displays disconnected, Fliqlo appears to work as per normal.

With the displays connected, however, Fliqlo only appears on one of them, and never on the main XDR display.

Most occasions, though Fliqlo appears on neither main, nor external display, rendering the whole screensaver pointless.

I have also noted that when Fliqlo does appear on an external display, it is slightly off-centre: That is, it has an alignment issue that cannot be corrected through resolution options.

If I had an inkling this update would f**k-up my screensaver - and likely other features yet to be discovered - I would never have bothered with it.
