I am quite frustrated as i have created a Keynote template with lots of different added slides. One slide is the master with the possibility to change dates and project name an so on, the other slides are slides that my intention was to click on them so they could be editable when i make presentations. However this does not work.. it keeps telling me "This object can be edited on the lide layout only."

You are receiving that notification because you have placed that object in the Slide Layout, not on a slide.
Objects placed in the Slide Layout can not be edited on a slide, only in the Slide Layout.
The way I think about Slide Layouts is that they are not slides, but a list of the objects with their size, position and colour that are to be shown on a slide. Anything placed in the Slide Layout (images, text, shapes, video) will be shown on every slide that uses that Slide Layout.
Keynote presentations can use any number of Slide Layouts that can be applied to specific slides in the presentation.
If you want to easily edit an object on a presentation slide, do not put it in the Slide Layout, place it on a slide.
I can't edit added slides on my template Keynote..
