Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter (compatibility with Macbook Pro 13" 2015)

Hi there!

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, early 2015) with two Thunderbolt 2 ports, and I'd like to know whether it's compatible or not with the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 adapter, since I didn't find my macbook model among the compatible models list.

Besides, my main goal is to connect my macbook to this docking station with Thunderbolt 4 ports, which are supposed to be compatible with Thunderbolt 3 connectors due to its backward compatibility. Would it be possible in case my macbook is compatible with the mentioned adapter?

Does anybody has any clue or some experience on this issue?

Thanks :)

Hi Grant,

I just want to connect an audio interface (USB-A), a display monitor (HDMI), a DJ controller (USB-A) and a wireless mouse (USB-A). My macbook model has all those type of connectors but missing one more USB port in my case. That's why I am trying to connect everything through the docking station I already have. Would you have any other solution in mind for my purpose?

Thanks in advance :)

Your Mac appears to have a Direct HDMI port for you external display.

If you use a wireless mouse, why does it need its own USB port? Can't you get one that uses Bluetooth?

Your wish list appears to consist of one additional USB port.

My recommendation:

Set your Lenovo Dock aside, don't buy the US$50 Thunderbolt-3 <-> Thunderbolt-2 adapter (plus cable additional).

Buy yourself a simple USB-A multi-port adapter and live happily ever after.

It is perfectly compatible. however, there are some strong limitations.

Many of the 'tricks' a dock performs are possible because of Full Thunderbolt-3. Not all will be available using 'converted-from-thunderbolt-2' as the connection.

The device does not pass power in either direction.

The device directly supports only genuine ThunderBolt displays. No direct connection of any other types of displays is possible, even with additional SIMPLE adapters. (not certain if that dock might be able to convert the signals to support a display).

The total bandwidth will be limited to thunderbolt-2 bandwidth, 20 G bits/sec, where ThunderBolt-3 can run in certain cases as fast as 40 G bits/sec.

¿what do you want to connect? there may be less-risky ways to proceed.
