Does the Apple TV Remote app on iPhone/iPad strictly use Wi-Fi or does it use Bluetooth as well?

Great question. This covers how to Set up the Apple TV Remote on your iPhone or iPad, and it mentions the following:
"Check that your iPhone or iPad is on the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible smart TV."
Based on this, Wi-Fi is a requirement but not Bluetooth.
