The "community" is composed of users......just like you.......who volunteer to try to help other other users. It might be several hours before another volunteer will see your post and be able to respond.

As far as vagueness......How slow is too slow?

Assuming that you are using the Time Capsule Wi-Fi to back up your Mac to your Time Capsule, the backup is only going to go as fast as the quality and speed of the Wi-Fi signal will allow.

Please hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the Wi-Fi "bars" at the top of the Mac's screen. Look for the Transmit Rate and post that number back.

Try locating your Mac as close as possible to the Time Capsule and note whether backups are still going "too slow".

If they are, the only thing that might help speed things along is a direct wired Ethernet cable connection from your Mac to one of the three LAN ports on the Time Capsule.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm using my Time Capsule as a NAS. I have the wifi turned off, it's just on Ethernet, on one of the three LAN ports.

The Network setting is in bridge mode.

By "too slow" I mean 100x or more slower than it used to go. I can not even right click on a file without seeing the beach ball. It had been working fine for many years until just recently. I am not aware of having made any changes, except changing my ISP, but why would that matter, this is for local networking only.

Yes, I did a hard reset and a factory reset too. No help. If anything, the copy is even slower now. After several minutes, the finder copy window still shows 0 bytes copied. You would think that if the thing is just dead, it wouldn't even show the files and folders, but that all shows up (after some waiting).

The Time Capsule is likely 6-7 years old and the hard drive is probably starting to head downhill.

As a last resort, I would try copying all of the data on the Time Capsule over to another hard drive, then perform a Zero Out Data erase on the Time Capsule drive.

Copy the data back over to the Time Capsule hard drive and see if that helps. If still no luck, there is really not much else that you can do at this point, unless you want to consider replacing the hard drive inside the Time Capsule. It's a tough job, and you really would also want to replace the power supply as well.

The only Time Capsule version that Apple still supports is the tall "tower" model, 802.11ac. But, Apple never offered any kind of repair service or parts for the Time Capsule, so users were pretty much on their own after the AppleCare option expired.

Apple won't replace the hard drive or power supply, etc......even if you are willing to pay them. An independent shop should be able to replace the hard drive though and take a good look at the power supply as well.

Good luck!
