Rogers Canada SIM card with SOS error on the broadband connection & 3G only service & no data on iPhone 13
Has anyone else had success with this undocumented approach to correcting temporary travel Sim problems. Rogers carrier promoting iphone full factory reset when an APN profile need only have been deleted.
My Rogers Canada SIM card had an SOS error on the broadband connection and 3G only service with no data.
The carriers immediate solution on their support page and their online site was to wipe the iPhone to factory settings which did not sit well with me. I found another solution not listed.
I used an Unari-kun travel SIM card in Japan in my IPhone 13 and it worked well when traveling. On return I replaced my Rogers wireless Sim and it demonstrated the above errors. To correct this after doing all the things in Appple support articles including resetting Network Connctions, I discovered these steps:
Under iPhone 13 settings > general > VPN & Device Management > CONFIGURATION PROFILE
I identified that the sim supplier installed an APN to enable broadband access on their travel Sim. In this case it was clear that it was related to my Sim issue as it listed:
ppsim ppsim
Signed by Not Signed
Description APN設定プロファイル

I checked the advance settings and found it was indeed related to my support issue:

pp@sim

As I no longer required the Sim I deleted the APN profile by hitting > Remove Profile and typed in my Apple password to confirm
I restarted my iPhone and on start up the Rogers Sim returned to full normal ability.
I hope this is of some help to others with similar issues and I would be interested in commits or experiences.
Support pages do not point you to the settings menu item:
VPN & Device Management - CONFIGURATION PROFILE to check for leftover profiles.
I found the reference on a site for someone that had a problem with quickconnect clients profiles being problematic and suggested this resolution:
To remove the wireless profile from an iOS device:
1. Go to Settings > General > Profiles
2. Select the profile you wish to remove (eduroam or UI-Wireless-Setup, for example)
3. Select Remove
4. If asked, enter your device's security PIN number
Good luck! This was a happy find!
