MacBook pro M2 max USB-C to USB Micro-B issues

I have the new M2 Max MacBook, I went to attach my Nikon D800 which uses a USB Micro-B connection to USB-C and nothing came on. After lots of testing and re-installing I've worked out that the laptop doesn't like USB-C to USB Micro-B cables.. I've had to go back to the old USB A to Micro-B cable and the add a USB A to USB-C converter to dumb it down.. and hence it appeared on my laptop. I Have an M1 Mac mini and don't have this issue.. both running Ventura. Is there a security protocol that doesn't allow these cables.. any ideas welcome!!
