How do I scroll back to the top of a page in Safari on the new iPad Mini without multiple swipes?

How do I scroll back to the top of a given web page in Safari on the new iPad mini without multiple swipes? If I tap at the top of the screen like my iPhone it either opens the split screen menu or does nothing at all.

To return to the top of an extended page without swiping with your finger, simply tap to top of the screen - but do not tap the centre of the screen, where you see the “three dots” button, unless you wish to use any of the multitasking features.

It does work… tapping anywhere within the highlighted with the areas highlighted should work for you too:

There are no configuration settings for this basic touch gesture.

If you are having trouble, aim to touch the screen with your finger at the extreme edge of the screen - at the point that the visible screen meets the surrounding bezel. Depending upon your position on the page, you may have to touch twice.
