Getting files

Hi everyone! I have a mac bought in 2011. I’ve used it for many years but now it stopped working and I was not able to get all the files transferred into the new mac. Old mac won’t open anymore. Is there a way I could get the files?

trying to use instructions to transfer files to a new mac but can't find applications folder the files are not in the finder window

Migrating to new MacBook Air from old iMac did not go well when I used the Migration Assistant from my iMac running High Sierra to my new MacBook Air it copied all the files into one file instead of transferring the full directory to the new one. What happened to my hard drive directories?

If the drive still works, you can remove the drive from the old Mac, install it into an external drive enclosure and plug that into your new Mac.

OWC/macsales have external cases that are well regarded by folks here in the Communities.
