WhatsApp Duplicate Backups

My iPhone creates two WhatsApp backups - one as a standalone backup and another as part of the device backup.

What is the difference?

To save iCloud storage space, I'd like to disable one but I'd like to understand what the difference between the two is or whether I actually need to keep both in the event I need to restore from backup.

Delete Whatsapp backup from iCloud Hi I want to delete the iCloud backup of my whatsapp chat history ONLY, but not the actual whatsapp application data that is stored on my mobile. I’ve noticed when i follow these steps after disabling backup from whatsapp it says Steps: Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Manage Storage > WhatsApp Messenger > Delete Data “This will delete all data for this app stored on this iPhone and in iCloud. This action can take some time...” However i have seen a tutorial when for others it says it will only delete the iCloud backup. Why is it different? Is there something else enabled which is causing the delete action on my phone to delete it from phone and icloud?

Unable to delete WhatsApp backup from iCloud The free space in my iCloud account is almost over and I would like to get some more storage by deleting Whatsapp backup. I went to "Manage Account Storage" > Whatsapp > "Delete Data from iCloud button" > "Delete" and nothing happens. I tried many ways to get this to work without success: hard iPhone reset, sign out and sign in back to my iCloud account, deactivate backup in Whatsapp. Also there is no option in Whatsapp to delete iCloud backup. What should I do? Buying more iCloud storage is not an option.

Device backup (iCloud or iTunes) does not include WhatsApp data.

For taking a WhatsApp backup you need to use the App and the settings within it. It stores it under iCloud Drive and can be accessed only through the app.
