Not receiving gif or photo messages

Recently, my iPhone 8+ has stopped receiving gifs and photos in the Messages app. I cannot see gifs or pictures sent to me, and I cannot see some of the gifs I send to others.

I've tried doing a reset and turning messages and MMS off and on but neither corrects the problem. Previously, an iPhone software update impacted some Verizon Wireless customers' ability to receive 3rd party notification codes to log into apps like Yahoo!, WeCom, and Gmail, etc., which has been corrected.

I think this issue might be related, but I'm not sure. Please advise.
