File Date / Info is missing or wrong?

Hello,

I'm not sure if this is a core MacOS issue, or issue with files from my GoogleDrive or what.

But basically, if I select an image and open the file details/properties, it doesn't list the REAL date it was created.

If I change the view/layout in MacOS/ in that folder, to the split view, where it shows the image/data on the right, THEN it shows the correct date? Why doesn't it show it otherwise, sort properly in other views?

Thank you

Interesting... thank you!

Yeah... still getting used to some of this MacOS quirks coming from Windows.. I switch to that dual pane view, but then when i go back to another view, then sometimes it resets my settings/collapsed a ton of image stacks and so on. Just feels like I am fighting the Finder yet. Not sure if it's any different on Ventura?

Also somewhat "often", when I go to hit spacebar to preview an image, it just won't preview it properly/shows some other popup/half preview. The only way I can seem to fix it, is to completely close Finder/relaunch all my directories/etc.

I don't think I've seen any problems with QuickLook like you describe, but I'm not using it often. I don't know if it has trouble with image sizes or not. Some files don't have preview importers, so may only show an icon.

The Finder isn't very good at maintaining collections. They built apps for that, so they haven't seemed to make any changes in Finder to manage those things.

Yeah, not sure about the image size thing. Often I am previewing Canon images I exported as JPEGS at 8x10 format. It works fine, but then randomly, will break as I mentioned. Very strange.

Or, it's because these images are in my GoogleDrive folder/that is messing with it somehow. But again, not sure.

I tried another app to preview files/thumbs. It seemed nice, but I quickly found out, it had memory leaking or bad memory management, and was using 32GB of RAM/Swap Memory.

Seems like the "best" way for me to view large amounts of images yet, is using the web-browser to see my Google Drive images more efficiently.

Maybe the "Photos" app would work well for larger chunks of images, but not sure if I can easily merge my google drive images in there/link, without potentially having dupes of everything/wasting SSD space.

I don't think that would be possible. Photos needs to keep its library on a Mac formatted file system. I don't think it would work with a cloud solution except iCloud.

Am testing importing my google drive images/folder into the Photos app.

I THINK... it's just referencing them somehow/not duping the data, but we will see. The navigation/overall fluidity of the app is good though. So if this works, may solve some of those issues..

Edit: I think it is using data/SSD space actually.... although since I don't store almost anything on internal mac SSD otherwise... maybe will be bearable.

Yeah, I have that setting off. I was watching my internal SSD space as it was importing. Yeah, think it only built some thumbnails/cache possibly, but loading the original location otherwise maybe.

I would expect to use up more SSD space otherwise, if duping..

Edit: Yeah, looks like its linking to the original folder, cool. Yeah I think this will work....
