Additional to leroydouglas's post, I tell Parallels 18.2 Pro to keep its guests on an external 1 TB Crucial X8 (1050MB/s) SSD that is connected via a USB-C 3.2 gen 2 cable to my iMac thunderbolt port. Saves significant space on the iMac at zero performance cost.
