did we ever solve the question of why Ventura has trashed Dropbox?

Some time ago, someone asked why the new Ventura operating system has removed Dropbox from the menu bar (at the very top of our screen) No one gave a satisfactory answer. Most of us have already re-downloaded DB and tried everything and the fault is definitely with Ventura, not DB. So...how do we get DB back up atop our screens?

Go to Apps in Finder and double-click the Dropbox app. It may take a minute for it to launch, but once it does you should see the icon in the menu bar.

Then, go to System Settings, click on General, then click on Login Items. Make sure Dropbox.app is listed under "Open at Login". If it's not, click the "+" and browse the Applications folder to add it.

Hope that helps.

Apple is not responsible for internal Dropbox product development decisions, or making the product compatible with any version of macOS. Apple provides the Dropbox vendor with current operating system development tools and it is entirely up to Dropbox to use them effectively.

Sure, Ventura may have exacerbated an incompatibility in Dropbox, but again, that is not Apple's fault, and I believe that etresoft provided a reasonable answer. Update your dropbox client and read their installation instructions for it.

I'm afraid that's a question for DropBox. I don't use DropBox myself. I had heard stories of various problems with it over the past few months. I think they didn't have an Apple Silicon version for a long time. Then maybe they were trashing their app and going all web?

And I think now they are adopting Apple's new 3rd party cloud storage API. That API is designed to give 3rd party cloud providers features equivalent to iCloud. But that also comes with limitations specific to iCloud. One of those limitations is restricting the folder to the user's home directory. Previously people had been able to use an external hard drive. Apparently that's no longer possible.

I can see how a small start up with an app in the App Store might want to adopt Apple's new 3rd party cloud storage API. But personally, I don't think that's appropriate for major providers like DropBox. They have the resources to provide enterprise services beyond what Apple can offer in its consumer product. But that's just me.

Oh my goodness, I.already.updated.my.dropbox.client. Ventura installed an icon I didn't want (the aforementioned Focus) and took out Dropbox. Have checked the Dropbox forums and other folks have experienced this AND the general agreement is that it's a Ventura/Apple issue, not DB.

And I am afraid I didn't understand a word of what etrasoft was saying nor what it has to do with removing the icon. Just not a computer geek here.

If someone could just tell me how to get DB back on my menu bar, I'd appreciate it.
