Unable to remove password protection from PDF

My tax accountant sent me my return as a PDF with password protection. I can open it just fine with my password, but I want to be able to open it in the future without having to type in my password. I have followed several different online instructions on how to remove password from a PDF, using Preview. I specify that I am using Ventura 13.2.1.

Nothing I try ever works.

How can I do this?

Thanks!

There are a few different ways to remove password protection from a PDF document, depending on the type of password protection used.

  • If the PDF document is only password-protected from opening it, and you know the password:
    • Open the PDF document in Adobe Acrobat or any other PDF reader that supports password-protected files.
    • Enter the password when prompted.
    • Once the document is open, click on File > Properties > Security.
    • In the Security Settings window, select No Security from the drop-down menu next to Security Method, and click OK.
    • Save the document to apply the changes.

  • If the PDF document is password-protected from editing or printing, and you know the password:
    • Open the PDF document in Adobe Acrobat or any other PDF reader that supports password-protected files.
    • Enter the password when prompted.
    • Click on File > Save As Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools (Includes Form Fill-in & Save).
    • Save the document to apply the changes.
