Cannot activate cellular on Apple Watch Ultra.

I recently received an Apple Watch Ultra as a gift from a different carrier. The Apple Watch is currently on a standalone account with Verizon. (Only device on the account.)


My iPhone currently is on a T-Mobile Plan and I cannot activate cellular as when I attempt to activate, it takes me to a T-Mobile website. There are no other options to activate it on Verizon. I verified with the account holder and the Apple Watch has its own phone number and plan.


What else can I do?

You must activate the Watch on the same carrier as your iPhone. You cannot use the carrier plan that is still on the Watch. Contact your iphone carrier to have the Watch added for the additional monthly fee.

The previous owner needed to remove the old cellular plan from the Watch which was part of the unpairing.

You can try and erase all content and settings. Put your watch on its charger and keep it there until you complete these steps. (select the watch OS version)

Erasing all content and settings this way erases all media, data, and settings from your Apple Watch, but it does not remove Activation Lock if it has one.
