How to restore Downloads and Desktop folder?

I may have accidentally deleted both the Downloads and Desktop folder while trying to uninstall Dropbox. Although previous threads advised to recreate missing folders, I'm met with a "The name “Downloads” is already taken. Please choose a different name." and cannot complete the naming. Additionally, I'm unsure if I should remove the aliases currently in the Home folder, as they are locked and I'm afraid of causing further damage.
