Mail & Office 365 Verification Failure

My Mac was off for about a week and when I started it back up, Mail gave me an error stating "Unable to verify account name or password". It works perfectly in Web Mail, and on both my iPhone and iPad.

Doing the same as other users with the same issue, I deleted the account, reset the password, restarted everything, deleted everything related to MS in the Keychain, searched for help online - Nothing solves the issue.

Does anyone have a solution - MS doesn't, and Apple doesn't appear to have one

It's the big unannounced Auth security changes going around. :(

Mac's Mail App is not as modern as iOS's Mail app, Many eMail providers now require a separate App Password different from your eMail password…

Using app passwords with apps that don't support two-step verification (microsoft.com)

What about application passwords? Will that keep working?

If application passwords are being used for MFA (Multi Factor Authentication) along with basic auth as another auth mechanism, then when basic authentication is disabled, app passwords used for MFA will stop working too.

Where can I find more information?

There are several resources that we wanted to provide here as additional reading:

Thanks, however, nothing in any of those articles references Mac Mail. Other than Office 365, I have nothing else as far as a Microsoft account is concerned. I have no other MS apps on this Mac.

This is extremely frustrating having to jump thru hoops trying all the suggestions and nothing works. the frustrating part is there is nothing from Apple and MS specifically addressing this issue that I can find
