macOS 13.3 – Bluetooth mouse and kb not connecting

Since installing macOS 13.3, I have had two instances of the Bluetooth mouse and keyboard not connecting. I have spare wired USB keyboard and mouse and so am able to use my Mac.

Bluetooth Settings show the Magic mouse and keyboard as "Nearby Devices" but they do not connect. I have to manually click the "Connect" button beside each.

This only occurs on a cold boot. There are no ongoing connection issues once the mouse and keyboard are connected. I had no Bluetooth issues prior to macOS 13.3.

Anyone else having BT issues ?

Thanks. I did forget I have a Lightning cable. I'll try that next time. None of the other suggestions apply/work. The batteries are showing 45% for the keyboard and 90% for the mouse. But, this comment is odd:

"This pairs the accessory with your Mac ..."

Isn't it paired already ? Why would it cease to be paired ? Can a magic device be connected but not paired ?

More evidence of a bug:

The Bluetooth mouse and keyboard do not connect if they are turned on before powering-on the Mac. They do connect if they are turned on after the Mac starts – i.e. after the startup chime.

Powering the keyboard and mouse off then on again doesn't make them connect – they just do not connect at all. The only way to connect is to use a wired mouse to click on "Connect" in the entries in "Nearby Devices".

I tried using the lightning cable on the magic mouse but, obviously that's pointless as the cable plugs into the underside of the mouse.

Problem not fixed by macOS 13.3.1.
