Disk space low

I have a MacBook air which is using macOS Catalina at the moment. I don't have the required disk space to install Big Sur or Monterey. When I look at applications taking up space both are taking up 12GB that I would like to free up.

Can I delete the "install macOS Big Spur/Monterey" applications to free up disk space?

Yes, you can delete the "install macOS Big Sur/Monterey" applications to free up disk space on your MacBook Air. These applications are used to install the operating system on your Mac and are no longer needed once the installation is complete. However, please note that deleting these files means that you won't be able to install Big Sur/Monterey again without downloading the installer from the App Store or from Apple's website.

To delete the installer files, follow these steps:

  1. Open Finder and go to the "Applications" folder.
  2. Find the "Install macOS Big Sur/Monterey" application and drag it to the Trash.
  3. Empty the Trash to permanently delete the file and free up the disk space.

After deleting the installer files, you may want to consider other ways to free up space on your Mac, such as deleting unnecessary files, clearing out caches and temporary files, or using an external hard drive for storing files.
