Front camera on Instagram stories makes the photo lighter and blurry if not in direct light. Help.

Does anybody know how I fix this?

It’s very annoying, I’ve never had this issue with past iphones. I got the iphone 12 mini about a year ago and for a while everything worked fine, but when I updated either my phone or Instagram (I can’t remember) suddenly the front camera on Instagram stories started making my face smoother, and the picture gets vibrant in a weird way, and lighter at the same time.

It’s especially noticable on my skin, and my facial hair look like blotches of charcoal stains on my face instead of literal hairs. I can visually see as the camera lags and then turns everything brighter and smoother when I take a photo in slightest dark lighting. It’s like a constant night mode filter on the camera that I can’t turn off. If I screenrecord the process of taking a picture, it will show on the video as well.

The quality is extremely bad unless I’m in direct sunlight, and I think that’s a big issue with either apple or instagram, because the app and all its features should be accessible at all times.

Its like an automatic beauty filter. Please remove this filter or allow user to disable it.

Hi diogo121,

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities. We understand when you take photos with the front camera for Instagram stories they come out bright and blurry. We recommend making sure you have the latest version of iOS and Instagram. This article can help with updating your iPhone if needed: Update your iPhone or iPad. This article has the steps to update Instagram: How to manually update apps on your Apple device.

If that doesn't help, we recommend deleting and reinstalling the Instagram app since the issue is isolated to that app. This article has the steps: Delete apps on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

"How to delete an app

  1. Touch and hold the app.
  2. Tap Remove App Remove App icon.
  3. Tap Delete App, then tap Delete to confirm."

If you need further assistance, contact the app developer. Here's how: How to contact an app developer.

Take care.
