Feedback on my planned workflow to transfer data to a new MacMini with an external SSD drive
Hi Everyone,
Quick question on transfer of data:
Current Set-up:
- I currently own an iMac with internal 4TB SSD Drive.
- Backblaze is used to back-up my device.
New Set-up:
- I ordered a MacMini Pro with 1TB of internal SSD and a 4TB External Samsung SSD Drive.
- I also have new 2TB of iCloud storage.
Here is how I think about my transfer of data to the new device. Would love to get some feedback & advice to see I think correctly about everyting:
- Photos: I upload all Photos to iCloud and then on the new Mac synch them all in to the system library. Does that work?
- Music: I have a lot of Albums from the old iTunes days, including some ripped CD's and imported Music via Thumb Files. To ensure I move everything over can I just copy paste my Music library to the new external SSD? How will I tell MacOS that the new external Music library is my 'core' library?
- Video Folder: I don't want to synch my Video Folder to iCloud due to space savings. So I just plan to copy paste that folder to the external SSD
- Document Folder: Same with document folder. Just copy everything over to the external SSD
- Apps: I'll reinstall all Apps on internal drive of the MacMini. (No Transfer required just a reinstall)
- Other Cloud Drives: Google Cloud, OneDrive and Creative Cloud files such as Lightroom - I'll just re-synch everything to the external SSD Drive.
How does this sound to you? Any other suggestions? Do I forget something?
Appreciate any advice.
Thanks!
