My desktop files started to disappear as soon as I plug in my MacBook Air M1 to external monitor

Thank you, I did that but it did not get any results from that. I found another community post where someone had the same issue and addressed what their solution was for this issue. It turns out that when you have the virtual machine Paralllels running windows it changes the settings to best fit the windows format. In this instance when the monitor was plugged in, parallels had changed some settings where it would go into presentation mode, this clears out all desktop folders and icons and makes them invisible. Without me knowing about these changes I panicked, I changed the setting for presentation mode and unchecked some options. This changes the setting for when an external monitor is plugged into the MacBook Air M1, and everything went back to normal. It would be nice to know when such changes happen, given I gave parallels permission to do pretty much what it needs to do to keep the Microsoft windows running properly.
