MacBook Pro, MacMini M1/M2 - Samsung G9 Odyssey thunderbolt

I have an M2 air with a generic amazon thunderbolt to DP cable rated for '8k'.

I connected it to a G9 and got the standard flickering annoyance but it was fixed by setting the monitor to 60 hz via the monitor config button.

For some reason my G9 wanted 120hz by default, but the MBAM2 loves 60hz on this monitor.

Rock solid since. YMMV.

Thank you, I used this cable to connect my MacBook Pro M2 Max to my Samsung Odyssey g9 oled succesfully and get 5120 x1440 with 240 Hertz (from displays screen).

It took me a few attempts on connecting to work, as I found that my mac and monitor could not see each other. For me the trick was to unplug the monitor from the power for > 30secs so it reset then all seemed to work. Note the latter was not a display port error as also tried HDMI and they still could not see each other, it was a general monitor issue. But now good and pleased with result.

For the people that don't have an iPad pro (like me), I did the same process but plugin it to a random stuff with an usb-c port (in this case , my keyboard):

1. I plugged the usb-c to the keyboard while the displayport was connected.
2. I unplugged the usb-c from the keyboard
3. I unplugged the displayport from the Odyssey G9
4. I plugged the usb-c to the macbook air
5. I plugged the displayport back to to the Odyssey G9

And for some reason, it worked!

You are really right, I changed my cable and worked. Maybe should be 8K real, not fake one.

I did the same steps but instead of using ipad, i used my older intel macbook pro and it worked.

Hey guys. Buy this cable it will run the G9 at full resolution at 120Hz. Can confirm with M2 MacBook Pro. No iPad required.

Literally can confirm this works. Just did the same thing, so dumb.

But if I turn Mac Mini M2 off I have to repeat the procedure otherwise the monitor won't detect it.

Depends on what? How can this be resolved permanently?

Does it depend on the cable not being of high quality?

What if i dont have an iPad pro to do this? I've tried with both DP to HDMI and DP to Usb C cables.

For those that don't have iPad Pro?

What does the technology embed, that the others don't have?

Thank you, this worked. It's ridiculous that you have to do this to get it to work, but glad there is a way to do so.

The same happens to me.

Every time I reboot or shut down I have to do it again if I want to get the monitor.

Can anyone answer if there is a solution that will hold up over time?
