Apple iMac as display for Studio.

Hello,

I am currently running my Mac Studio via a USB-C to Mini-Displayport on "Target Display Mode" on

my iMac 27 inch late 2009.

It works great!

I am curious if I can buy an iMac Late 2014 and use the 5K panel as monitor instead?

with Thunderbolt to USB-C ?

No, a Thunderbolt equipped iMac will not work as an external display for your Mac Studio.

carefully read > Use your iMac as a display with target display mode - Apple Support

The reason you're Late 2009 and a 2010 27" iMac will work, is because they have a Mini DisplayPort instead of a Thunderbolt port.
