"Netflix says to install the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in"

Why this notice about Silverlight all of a sudden? Years of successful use of Netflix on my iMac (OS and Safari, always updated). Call me suspicious. (By the way, Netflix works fine on my MacBook Pro laptop).

Safari Netflix and Silverlight I have Safari 16.4 with Ventura 13.3.1 on a 2021 MacBook Pro and Netflix is suddenly telling me that I need to install Silverlight because my browser is out of date. Had to switch to Chrome for Netflix. Any ideas?

What is libwidevinecdm.dylib on macbook? I got a pop-up while trying to watch netlflix. I had a pop-up saying "libwidevinecdm.dylib" wasn't downloaded from the app store when I tried to use netflix while on google chrome. it gave the option of "Ok" or "Show in Finder". I tried googling it to understand it, couldn't find much except for possibly having a relation to streaming videos. There was a google link saying something else with a similar name was malware, so I panicked, deleted it on Finder, then realized it was something different. But after deleting it Netflix and HBO Max didn't work. I updated my software, video streaming services work again, and I never got the pop up again, but I am concerned about it still. Does anyone have a clear answer/understanding or am I diving way too deep into this?

Silverlight reached end of life a couple of years ago. There is no longer any content that requires Silverlight. You are accessing an old obsolete site or it is a scam.
