Apple Remote Desktop 3.9

macOS Ventura 13.3.1

Apple Remote Desktop (ARD) 3.9.6 MacBook Pro 13"

Apple Remote Desktop Client 3.9.8 iMac 24"

It seems ARD cannot start Observing or Controlling ARD client.

Client appears as Bonjour client in Remote Desktop.

The error window says "Connection failed to <computer name>, Unable to communicate with <computer name>".

Firewall allows ARDAgent (in fact connection fails with or without firewall).

ARD can for example remote execute Unix commands on client.

Local area network, Wi-Fi.

This seems to be router issue. One has to define (in my router) WAN services, IPv4 Port forwarding table.

Router GUI kindly provides template for ARD port forwarding. Total of 4 port forwarding (TCP/UDP, ports 3283 and5900).
