To back up your iPhone to an external drive, you'll need to follow these steps:

1. Connect your external drive to your computer and make sure it's recognized by your computer.
2. Open iTunes (or Finder if you're using macOS Catalina or later) on your computer and connect your iPhone to your computer using a USB cable.
3. Once your iPhone is connected, click on it in iTunes (or Finder) to open its Summary page.
