Well, that all depends ...
"Messages" may mean SMS/MMS messages or iMessages. The two are handled very differently.
What is the difference between iMessage and SMS/MMS? - Apple Support
iMessages would just appear on your Mac if you set up the Mac's Messages app appropriately.
SMS/MMS would have to be treated like this:
