macOS 13 Ventura BREAKS Panasonic TV connection via HDMI

macOS 13 Ventura BREAKS Panasonic TV connection via HDMI.

The "Apple - System Settings - Displays" shows the Built-in Display ONLY. The Panasonic Smart Viera TX-L47DT60E television (TV) is not shown, even after pressing the Option key and "Detect Displays". Nothing else is detected.

Is there a way to fix it, or is it a Ventura bug?

No problem with previous macOS versions, including Sierra, Big Sur or Monterey, in which such TV automatically showed in "Apple - System Preferences - Displays".

System: macOS 13.3 (22E252) Ventura on iMac 27-inch Retina 5K display 4.2 GHz Intel Core i7 7th-generation; model identifier iMac18,3 mid 2017) 40 GB RAM.

i can pretty much guarantee this won’t be fixed. There’s no way they will dedicate engineers into this intel related issue. I basically have a huge Panasonic monitor mounted above my Mac that I’ve not been able to use for the best part of a year. I’ve been following this bug for such a long time that now that Ive realised it’s just never gonna be fixed.

This is just too bad, Apple! In the future I will think twice about buying products from a company like Apple which simply decides to make your expensive up-to-date (!) periphery unusable without any discernible reason. I used Panasonic TVs as screens both in our department as well as at home. What to do now? Talking about sustainability...

Does anybody by any chance know any workarounds – perhaps an interface (in the form of a small box?) which one could interpose between our Intel-Ventura-Macs and the Panasonic TVs?

Hello,

same issue here with a MBP 2020 i4 running Ventura. I’ve run out of options since nothing works. (Safe mode, display detection, other adapters, NVRAM PRAM reset, other HDMI cables, other HDMI ports on TV, TV reset)

I sent a full feedback onto apple dedicated website as previously suggested.

Though when I looked up “Panasonic”, the search query returned no results.

Every involved end customers in the thread should indeed escalate it back to Apple.

I will try to obtain technical data with Panasonic Customer Care such as DisplayPort supported versions and supported resolutions. DP-Alt compatibility and so on? Could we start a class action ?

Request to Panasonic (Belgium) sent!

#Incident: ****

”Dear,

for about several months, many users of a Panasonic such as me, of a TV and Mac under Ventura 13.5 computers are experiencing no image displayed at all.

See:

My TV runs the latest update. Ver.3.1222

Apple seems on the other hand reluctant to find a workaround to Ventura users. Therefore could you please ask Panasonic headquarters for the technical specifications of my TV regarding these very important points:

-Supported DisplayPort versions;

-Supported refresh rates and screen resolutions;

-Support of DisplayPort Alt modus;

-Any other relevant information regarding the communication happening through HDMI between a computer and this TV.

Best regards, and thank you for your cooperation,

Nicolas L.”

It is important to note that the problem of Macs not detecting Panasonic televisions arose with macOS 13 Ventura (no problem before) when using Intel Macs (no problem with Apple silicon ones).

For instance, when using iMac connected to TV via HDMI using Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter, since such Mac does not have HDMI port:

Finally, I do not know if the problem arises with Intel Macs with HDMI port (not using the adapter) like the Mac mini. Someone could test with such Macs? Thanks.

Thanks Barney-15E, but that does not fix it, since the Panasonic TV software was already updated. For instance, Panasonic TV system software version 3885-10502 for Panasonic TX-L47DT60E. As shown at

In summary, this is a bug generated by macOS Ventura (no problem before) on Intel Macs (no problem with Apple silicon ones) on Panasonic televisions (no problem with other manufacturers) at least on Macs like iMac that do not have HDMI port and require "Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter”https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MUF82AM/A/usb-c-digital-av-multiport-adapter. Indeed, no problem when booting from other disk or a disk partition with macOS prior to Ventura. THIS IS A VENTURA BUG.

Only Apple can fix it. Hopefully, they will do it in the next macOS Ventura update, because it will be the last one (besides security ones) and some Macs cannot be upgraded beyond Ventura. Is Apple listening? Thanks!

That's not what I was talking about. There are various versions of HDMI. Some TVs have the ability through the onscreen menu system to change the HDMI version used.
