macOS 13 Ventura BREAKS Panasonic TV connection via HDMI

macOS 13 Ventura BREAKS Panasonic TV connection via HDMI.

The "Apple - System Settings - Displays" shows the Built-in Display ONLY. The Panasonic Smart Viera TX-L47DT60E television (TV) is not shown, even after pressing the Option key and "Detect Displays". Nothing else is detected.

Is there a way to fix it, or is it a Ventura bug?

No problem with previous macOS versions, including Sierra, Big Sur or Monterey, in which such TV automatically showed in "Apple - System Preferences - Displays".

System: macOS 13.3 (22E252) Ventura on iMac 27-inch Retina 5K display 4.2 GHz Intel Core i7 7th-generation; model identifier iMac18,3 mid 2017) 40 GB RAM.

"The problem was generated with Ventura".

That being the case, the problem is Panasonic has not made their product compatible with Ventura. It's their responsibility to do that. Ventura apparently revealed a existing deficiency in Panasonic, but retro compatibility solutions may be impossible.

Unfortunately, a fix by Panasonic may not be coming. I use to get periodic firmware updates for our Samsung TV but it's age has stopped that. It remains to be seen if Panasonic can do that or if they will

That's not what I was talking about. There are various versions of HDMI. Some TVs have the ability through the onscreen menu system to change the HDMI version used.

No such option in Panasonic. As said, no problem before. It arose with Ventura and only for Intel Macs (no problem with Apple silicon ones). It is a Ventura bug.

You keep repeating that as though it matters to us. We can't do anything about Apple bugs or Panasonic firmware.

All we can offer is things to try to workaround the issue.

If it is a Ventura bug, revert back to Monterey or earlier, if possible. Perhaps it will work in Sonoma, but nobody here would be able to say if it does.

UPDATE. This is amazing. The bug is between Apple macOS 13 Ventura (no problem with previous macOS versions) AND Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter. No problem if the Mac has HDMI port like Mac mini connected with HDMI cable WITHOUT adapter. The problema rises on Intel Macs (no problem with Apple silicon ones) without HDMI port like iMac. Please, please, please, fix it. Thanks.

FIXED (sort of). I followed the suggestions of Reddit user's https://www.reddit.com/user/mistakenotmy/ and tried buying and attaching to my HDMI dongle an EDID emulator like this one. The TV was identified straight-away and I can now use it with my Intel-based Ventura MacBook Pro. Yet another dongle, and I've read online there might be software-only hacks for this, but this is in the end a very straightforward fix. More info here.

Hope this helps!

The issue remains with macOS 13.6 (22G120) Ventura, which will probably be the last Ventura update (besides the security ones for the next two years).

And some Intel Macs cannot be upgraded beyond Ventura. Will we be left in the cold? Apple, please, fix this bug that you generated with Ventura (no problem before) on Intel Macs (no problem with Apple silicon ones) on Macs with Thunderbolt ports but no HDMI port when connecting to Panasonic television (no problem with other manufacturers) connected via HDMI with "Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter”. BTW, the TV has firmware updated. The problem is not in Panasonic; it is in Ventura. Search Google for "Panasonic" "Ventura" "HDMI" to find multiple sites reporting the problem.

Is Apple listening?

HOLY SMOKES, THEY DID IT!

I just upgraded my 2019 Air (Intel i5) to Sonoma because of your question and my Panasonic TV was immediately detected. Who would've thought... I had always believed that there was something wrong with the TV until I found this thread (I was already on Ventura when I got the TV, so for me it never has worked before...).

I'd say just give it a shot and try upgrading. By the way, I do not use any original Apple USB C to HDMI adapter, just some rando generic one off of A****n.

Cheers.
