macOS 13 Ventura BREAKS Panasonic TV connection via HDMI

macOS 13 Ventura BREAKS Panasonic TV connection via HDMI.

The "Apple - System Settings - Displays" shows the Built-in Display ONLY. The Panasonic Smart Viera TX-L47DT60E television (TV) is not shown, even after pressing the Option key and "Detect Displays". Nothing else is detected.

Is there a way to fix it, or is it a Ventura bug?

No problem with previous macOS versions, including Sierra, Big Sur or Monterey, in which such TV automatically showed in "Apple - System Preferences - Displays".

System: macOS 13.3 (22E252) Ventura on iMac 27-inch Retina 5K display 4.2 GHz Intel Core i7 7th-generation; model identifier iMac18,3 mid 2017) 40 GB RAM.

Hi ApMax,

sorry I mixed things up, it's an 2018 Air (A1932), not a 2019. It has the Dual-Core i5 1,6 GHz with Intel UHD Graphics 617 and only Thunderbolt Ports, no dedicated HDMI. The TV is a Panasonic TX-50JX800 and the adapter I use is a "uni USB-C to HDMI Adapter 4K 60Hz", which is available on Amazon DE and COM. Really nothing special but before upgrading to Sonoma I had to use a Dell Dock when I wanted to use this TV because none of the adapters I had at hand wanted to work (I also tried my brother's original Apple dongle (the USB C -- to --> HDMI, USB A, USB C one)).

Hope this helps :)

steakkini, I have seen the following Docks in Dell's site. Which one did work for you to connect the Intel Mac with macOS 13 Ventura with Panasonic television?

Dell Dual Charge Dock - HD22Q

Dell Thunderbolt Dock – WD22TB4

Dell Docking Station – USB 3.0 (D3100)

Dell Universal Dock - UD22

Dell Dock – WD19S 180W

Dell Dock – WD19S 130W

Dell Performance Dock – WD19DCS

Hi ApMaX,

Yes, thats the adapter.

My Dell dock is a D6000 and it worked for me with Ventura (installation of the DisplayLink driver necessary, of course). I think that's because these docks contain a lot more logic than the simple single adapters and therefore appear to the computer as some kind of a whole new device.

Tried the trick with the EDID emulator – and it works for about 10 secs with my Intel-mac (MacbookPro 2019), then the TV screen turns black and remains black. Have not the slightest idea why. Can anybody help? Otherwise, I guess I will be forced to update to Sonoma, which surely will mean that something else is not working any longer...

Hi hauke_99, which configuration did you use? Please indicate:

  • Mac (Apple - About This Mac - More Info - System Report - Hardware - Model Identifier).
  • Does the Mac have HDMI port?
  • macOS , including version and build (Apple - About This Mac - macOS; click over version to show build).
  • Manufacturer and model of EDID emulator. Link most appreciated.
  • Manufacturer and model of television.
  • Adapter (if used)
  • Connection used, which I guess would be "Thunderbolt 3 port of Mac - Adapter - Emulator - HDMI cable - HDMI port of television"

Thanks!

Hello ApMax

yes I did and my MBP intel (2019) now works perfectly just as it did with Monterey. I use a non-Apple HDMI adapter and actually bought an Apple equivalent, neither of which works with Ventura. Despite a visit to the Genius Bar (where they showed me the hdmi working on an external display (not Panasonic of course) I tried the upgrade as a last ditch effort and happy that I did.

i hope this works equally well for all other Mac/Panasonic users out there.

Hi ApMaX, would be great if these informations could prove to be helpful:

– MacBookPro16,2 – Quad-Core Intel Core i5

– no, just 4 USB/Thunderbolt ports

– Ventura 13.5.2 (22G91)

– EVanlak HDMI-Emulator-Adapter (3. generation), compatible with Mac Thunderbolt auf HDMI-Switches/Extender/AV-Receiver/Video-Splitter, 1080 x 1920 bei 60 Hz (from Amazon)

– Panasonic, do not know model, but was bought around two years ago and worked fine with a Mac as long as I had not updated to Ventura

– yes, exactly: Thunderbolt 3 port of Mac - Adapter - Emulator - HDMI cable - HDMI port of television

Thanks for any support to solve this problem!
