how do you rotate the screen on a iPhone XR

I have tried orientation screen lock but nothing

iPhone XR, iOS 16

You cannot simply rotate your iPhone and expect everything / every app to rotate with the screen. For example, as you have learned, the Home Screen cannot be rotated. You should be able to rotate the Safari app, Messages app, Mail app etc. Most video streaming app will allow rotation as well. There are apps that exist that cannot be rotated. In short, some apps you can rotate and some apps you cannot.


If you are unable to rotate the Safari app, for example, and you have the Orientation Lock to OFF, then there may be other than software issue on your iPhone XR. Try and Force Restart your iPhone EXACTLY as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:

  • Press and quickly release Volume UP button
  • Press and quickly release Volume DOWN button
  • Press and Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears and then release the Side button (Can take up to 20 seconds. (DO NOT release Side Button when invited to Slide Power OFF).
