Will FileVault encrypt Windows partition?

Hi,

I partitioned the SSD (Solid State Drive) into "Macintosh", and "Windows" in Disk Management (not with Boot Camp Assistant), and installed Mac OS (Sierra 10.12) on "Macintosh" and Windows system on "Windows" respectively.

If I turn on FileVault in Mac OS, will Filevault encrypt only "Macintosh" or it will encrypt "Windows" as well (so no need for Bitlocker)?

Filevault vs APFS encryption Been running some testing, and I just wanted to clarify the differences between FileVault and APFS encryption. So I wiped my disk and chose APFS encrypted as my drive format. Set a password. I then installed macOS Ventura. During the setup process, after logging into iCloud, I unchecked the FileVault option. When I look under Disk Utility now, it says the the disk is just APFS, not encrypted. If I go to /System/Volumes/ and then right-click on 'Macintosh HD', I can select 'Encrypt,' which will prompt me to enter a password. I then get a pop-up saying "This disk has macOS users. Please select it as the startup disk, restart, and enable Filevault." My main question is, are FileVault and APFS encryption the same? I feel like the documentation has been very unclear. I also see threads like this one which says: FileVault and encryption are not synonymous. FileVault is more about being able to decrypt and login with the same credentials. It will encrypt your startup drive, but the encryption is the same as Disk Utility. FileVault encrypts, but all encryption is not FileVault. Do they offer the same type of encryption? From what I've read, APFS encryption encrypts the filesystem while FileVault is a layer that sits on top of the filesystem. I would understand if Apple only lets you have both on, or both off, but curious as to if they are in fact the same thing, or just two things that you can't have separately. Related, can I have my drive be APFS encrypted without FileVault being turned on? Thanks in advance!

encrypt individual folder on mac mini m1 Ventura OS Hello, I am looking for an app that can encrypt an individual folder on my MacMini upon demand. Im a single user and no one has access to my computer. From what I am reading the FileVault native product does the entire SSD? I am coming from a Windows machine and I had always used a third party product for this. Some reviews mention Encrypto for this purpose on the Mac... would like to stay with Apple native products if I can... any suggestions? Thanks GroBo

Do I have to disable FileVault before erasing all content and settings on Mac Pro? Hi, I'm preparing my Mac Pro 7,1 for sale. It is currently running on macOS Monterey 12.6.6. I have read the Apple support article on how to reset a Mac to factory using the new "Erase All Content and Settings" feature that got added to Monterey. My question is: should I disable FileVault before erasing via this feature, or is that done automatically / not necessary? The support article does not make a comment about FileVault. I want to make sure the buyer will not get a password prompt with my FileVault password when he wants to setup the Mac. Thanks for your help!
