iOS disabled calendar still showing alerts

I have a few calendars enabled, one of which is for my work account. I disable the calendar on the weekend and ny days off but I still get alerts.

iOS version: 16.4.1

Handset: iPhone XR

Steps taken:

• Open the calendar app
• Click 'Calendars' at the bottom of the screen
• Disable the specified calendar (the calendar checkmark is no longer ticked)
• Close the calendar app and verify that said calendar is still disabled

Expected result:

Alerts for this calendar do not occur until the calendar is re-enabled

Actual result:

Alerts for this calendar continue to occur without re-enabling said calendar
