Strong pink tint on external monitor connected through USB-C Hub + HDMI cable after Ventura 13.3 update

I recently updated my M2 MacBook Air (model Z15S000CTLL/A) to macOS Ventura 13.3, and since then, I've been experiencing an issue with my Samsung monitor. Specifically, the Samsung monitor (model s24f350) is showing a strong pink tint that wasn't present before the update. I connect the monitor to my MacBook Air using an HDMI cable via a generic USB-C dongle. Only this specific dongle has this issue. I've tried 2 other dongles from some friends of mine and they show no problems.

I was able to recreate the problem with a M1 MacBook Air (model Z124000FLLL/A). Once again, previous to the update, the dongle-cable-monitor combination worked just fine and the image was normal. Right after the update, the pink tint showed up. Once more, the 2 other dongles don't cause the problem.

Here are the troubleshooting steps I've already tried:

  • Resetting both the monitor and the MacBook Air(s), no result
  • Using a different s24f350 monitor, which also showed the same pink tint
  • Changing only the HDMI cable, the pink tint stayed
  • Trying two other USB-C dongles, which worked normally
  • Trying a different model of Samsung monitor, which worked normally

My conclusions are the following:

  • My generic dongle is not broken, since it worked with both MacBooks before the update, it works with both of them after the update when using other monitors, its other ports (USB-A, SD card, Ethernet, etc.) still work, and it works with Windows PCs just fine.
  • The monitor model is definitively part of the problem
  • The update is definitively part of the problem
  • The generic dongle is definitively part of the problem

Therefore, it seems like the issue is indeed specific to the combination of Ventura 13.3 and the Samsung s24f350 monitor, as well as my generic USB-C dongle. However, I don't know what the root cause is and what else to try to resolve it.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue after updating to macOS Ventura 13.3 or 13.3.1? Are there any other troubleshooting steps I can try to fix the pink tint issue on my monitor? Or should i just give up and buy another dongle?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can provide.

A pink or magenta colour cast might suggest that the Green color of the RGB display is missing. At this stage it is not obvious whether that is a problem with the dongle conversion to HDMI, or the original incoming image to the dongle.

I suggest making a screenshot Take a screenshot on your Mac - Apple Support then export it to another device (email to iPhone?) and compare. If the screenshot is good the problem is likely to be in the dongle or the cable and external display. If the screenshot has the same colour cast then something is deceiving the MacBook to send a bad image to the dongle.

If you suspect the dongle may have software incompatibilities the simple solution is to use a device which Apple can't avoid supporting. USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter - Apple

I successfully replicated this issue on three different monitors via the same dongle (which was working fine before the 13.3.1 update). So then i returned the dongle on warranty, received a brand new one and it did not fix the problem. Older mac with catalina works fine with the same dongle. The thing to fix here is the software update, nothing else.
