Image colour inversion on iPad

This question keeps coming up over the years and seems to not be satisfactorily answered. iPad OS16.4.1. Sometimes images and videos, especially thumbnails appear as if negative. Corrects itself most times if image is zoomed. All the past posts have referred to ensuring that Accessibility - Display & Text Size - Smart Invert and Classic Invert etc. are not on and they are not. So why am I having these problems? Sometimes also if I have an image open then go to a new tab on returning to the original it need to be refreshed before it shows.

You seem to be describing an intermittent issue that affects only some elements of the display - and is not a problem associated with global accessibility or display settings.

I’ve not experienced the specific issue that you describe - and as regular contributor here, have no recollection of having seen a similar problem reported within the iPad Support Community. I do acknowledge, however, that iPadOS 16.4.1 (a critical security update) does appear to have introduced some issues with memory management - that affects many aspects of iPad and its general responsiveness.

Issues such as you describe are often resolved by a reset of all settings - or of the iPad itself - the inconvenience of which, for some, being more hassle than the underlying problem.

A reset of iPad settings is the least invasive of the two options - and will not impact any stored data. To reset your iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings
