Unable to log in to my IRS account using Safari

I was unable to log in to my Internal Revenue Service account today using the Safari browser.  I haven’t had a problem doing that in the past.

On the irs.gov website, there is a choice, “Sign in to Your Account”.  When you click on that, you get a page titled “Your Online Account”.  There is a choice “Sign in to your Online Account”.  When you click on that, you are taken to sa.wwwr.irs.gov.  The page is titled “Sign In”.  There is no place on this page to move forward to the ID.me sign in or the IRS username entry.

If you move a finger from left to right on the mouse, the correct page is briefly shown and then the window returns to the irs.gov website where you started.

I tried my iPhone and got similar results.

Then I tried a different browser and was able to log into my account just like I typically do with Safari.

I tried to contact the IRS to report a technical problem but had no success.

It could be that the sign-in screen pop-up is being overlapped/blocked by the main Safari page.

See Block pop-up ads and windows in Safari - Apple Support for a possible solution.
