ALS input device....

A relative of mine has ALS; he loves using his iPad, but is losing the ability. His arms just aren't working. I am a computer engineer and wouldn't mind putting my effort into an integration project that would allow some other input device *such as eye control* to act as the touchpad.

I have heard that it is possible to access the bluetooth API by jail-breaking, but I'd rather not go that route as it really doesn't help if the system dies or can't access the app store.

Does Apple have any input as to a method of input? It seems the physically handicapped are kind of forgotten when it comes to accessibility in software.
