TV surround system

Currently I'm streaming Sky through the new Sky Pod to my Yamaha on to my Sony TV all via HDMI.

I'd like to rationalize that by using my ATV 4K, ditch the Yamaha and use 2 Home Pods instead of the 5.1 speakers.

What and how to wire up the Sky Pod to the ATV to the Sony and the Home Pods.

I can then sell the Yamaha and 5.1 speakers to pay for the Home Pods.

I personally favor a good surround sound setup with receiver and 6 or more speakers for cinematic audio experience. Without further details on the models, the choice seems odd, especially if you think the resale value would exceed HomePods new value.

To use HomePods with Apple TV, TV, and other TV-connected devices, set up as described here:

Use HDMI ARC or eARC with your Apple TV 4K - Apple Support

↳ Note that this requires Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or later) (2021-05-21 or later).

Set up home theater audio with HomePod or HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K - Apple Support

Front speakers are Meridian, centre and rear are B&W. The ATV is the latest 4K. I'm used to using the ATV to the Sony but was unsure of wiring to bring the Sony out to the ATV. The Sony has ARC input but when next upgraded there should be eARC, could be a couple of years away.

The price of the HomePods isn't an issue but the cost of re-plastering once the current speakers go could be.

If there's others that have gone down this route I'd like to hear of any problems.

I'll follow your suggestions and see how I go.

Thanks
