Gap at top of MacBook Pro screen, is this normal?

Hi there. I could be being really pedantic right now, but I got this MacBook Pro 14" (base model, space grey) in the post yesterday, and have only just realized this gap between the top of the screen and the top of the device. Is this normal, and if it is why is it like this? Otherwise, if it's not normal - if you could suggest a course of action for me to take, I'd be very grateful (however I'd like to stay with my laptop if possible, and FYI live 1.5 hours away from the nearest Apple Store).

It is difficult to determine with certainty, but if I am seeing what I think you are describing it's definitely not normal.

The MacBook Pro is a premium product that should be free of all obvious defects. In my opinion if yours does not meet your expectations, you should return it for a refund and immediately purchase another one. Assuming you are in the United States please refer to Apple's U.S. Returns & Refunds Policy.

I have a very narrow gap between the edge of the glass and the rubber gasket. I think that those two spots on either side of the camera appear to be a bit wider than the gap I have, but lighting and angles can play tricks in photos. I have to use a magnifier & strong light to see the slight gap (about the thickness of my fingernail) around all three edges (top, left & right sides).

I honestly don't know how much metal surface area is there for the adhesive to use to know whether a slightly larger gap would be cause for concern. If adhesive area is on the larger size, then it should be ok, but if the adhesive area is very narrow, then it may be a problem in time where the glass could start lifting and pulling away. I haven't tried removing the glass any broken screens to see the internal structure. All I can say is the adhesive bonding area is no larger than the black bezel surrounding the glass and may be slightly or even significantly narrower in places.

Most likely it will be Ok, but there is no way for anyone to be certain.
