I have an extra Apple TV - can I use it to power a local speaker? My main TV is connected to my TV and I don’t want to disturb it - I just want a local speaker beside my chair. Can the TV be headless?

one can also get a bluetooth reciever with minijack connectors works a bit like airplay2 just using bluetooth

people reported many years ago that if it could not init the hdmi connection to a display it would not output audio even if one used a splitter and connected to audio part to a speaker
Not possible unfortunately.
Bluetooth speakers are pretty good these days and not excessively expensive.
Quality of sound being the essence here I'll just get another Airport Express.
