When you split a clip in the editor of iMove, does it affect the entire video that is in the project queue?

If you split a clip in the editor of iMove, does the entire video disappear in the project queue or does it just make an additional clip?

iMovie Clip management Used to be so much easier to manage clips. If I wanted to clip something out but save it in the project media for later, I could just drag it from timeline to the media window. I see no way to do that any more. Whatever happened to this once beautiful product? I guess it was sacrificed for a new button on an iPhone somewhere.

view clips and edits separate in the storyline does anyone know how to view your individual video clips and edits in the storyline so they are separate? final cut pro has made it all into one storyline so I now cant see the individual clips to make further edits

It just splits the clip into 2 and everything else in the timeline stays the same.
