Hello DGSHEARER!

Your iPhone cannot be hacked unless it is jailbroken. For more info, see: Unauthorized modification of iOS can cause security vulnerabilities, instability, shortened battery life, and other issues - Apple Support.

I hope this is helpful. Good Luck!

It definitely was hacked

An iPhone can be hacked. Rare, targeted, and usually very, very expensive, but it can happen.

And given local access, SIMs can be cloned, which is a discussion to have with your carrier.

An iPhone can also be exceedingly complex, occasionally buggy, and confusing device, and can be entirely dependent on not-entirely-reliable and not-entirely-dependable wireless communications, among other causes of weirdnesses.

For the appropriate assistance for whatever happened here, you’ll need to provide us with more specific information about the issues or errors or concerns you are encountering. Claiming a hack or a clone or a virus does not make it so. “It definitely was hacked” is not evidence and not an indication of compromise.

Also factoring here: whether you’re likely of interest to an organization with millions of dollars to spend on exploit tooling, too. We don’t need to know that, but—if you are—you will need specialized assistance tailored to your security needs.

Or also possible here, whether you’re, for instance, re-using passwords, or using compromised passwords, or have somebody local inclined to gaslight or other shenanigans, or other causes of security problems.

Absent evidence of compromise, start with the following guide: Personal Safety User Guide - Apple Support

I know it’s been cloned because the gray screen comes up when there is an incoming call

Seems more like a hardware problem, as a phone with an active clone or a ported number shouldn’t be getting calls. But anyway, per US telecommunications regulators:

If you think you have been a victim of subscriber fraud:

  • Contact local law enforcement and file a police report. You can also file an identity theft report with the FTC.
  • Notify your current service provider as well as the service provider for the fraudulent account.
  • Place a fraud alert on any of the three major credit reporting bureaus -- Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion. The one you notify will share the alert with the other two.
