Apple Watch keeps ringing

How do I stop my Apple Watch from continuing to ring after I have answered the call on my iPhone 14 Plus? I have Phonak Paradise Bluetooth hearing aids; but the problem never occurred with my watch and my iPhone 7 Plus with the same hearing aids.

iPhone 14 Plus, iOS 16

I suggest you unpair your hearing aids and see if the problem persists.

If it stops then contact the hearing aid manufacturers.

If the problem persists then ...

If all settings normal but behaviour is irrational there is a progressive hierarchy of  remedies.

Hopefully you will not need to go to the end of the list!

First make sure you are not using VPN or VPN adblockers or security apps on the iPhone. They can wreak havoc and protect nothing.

Start by force restarting the Watch and paired iPhone at the same time:-

Force restart the Watch

i.e. p ess and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for at least 10 seconds, then release both buttons when you see the Apple logo. Then while Watch is restarting,

Force Restart the paired iphone   Force restart iPhone – Apple Support (UK)

You may also want to make sure the software on the watch and iphone  are both up to date to the same level. Updates are in pairs. eg iOS16.4 and watchOS 9.4 go together

Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support and

Update your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Test it for a while. If it is still misbehaving...

Unpair and set up again

Unpair and erase your Apple Watch – Apple Support (UK)

and then set up again - takes about 20 minutes

Set up your Apple Watch – Apple Support (UK)

NB setup without restoring the backup

The pecking order is that when ios16 and OS9 came out in Beta the app owners were supposed to test it during June thru September and either make changes or warn users they couldn't.

Individuals particularly those with life assisting devices like glucose monitors or aids should install Public Betas in the last month and decide whether to upgrade or not.

Unfortunately when upgrading from iPhone 7 to 14 you had no choice. It only takes iOS 16.

So the responsibility is with Phonak - officially. It doesn't help you but that is the situation. The Mountain will not come to the Prophet.

Apple Support and Phonak hearing aids are each blaming each other! Phonak said it sounds like the two Bluetooth devices (hearing aid and Apple Watch) are competing for Bluetooth compatibility/priority with the iPhone 14 when a call comes in (just like sometimes hearing aids and car phones compete to answer an incoming call.) But that still doesn’t explain why everything was working together seamlessly for years when I had my iPhone 7 until a month ago when I got my iPhone 14. Apple is saying that Phonak should specifically make their hearing aids compatible with iPhones.

Hopefully someone will come up with a solution. Thanks!

Thanks! I tried every single thing you suggested and nothing has helped. Even Apple Support and the Genius Bar do not know what else I should do. (My problem occurs about 90% of the time; 10% of the time it works correctly.)

I read in a previous Community Discussion from last year that other people with various brands of Bluetooth hearing aids are having the same problems with their Apple Watches and iPhones, but they said the problems only began with iPhone 13’s. Yet it still looks like no one has a solution. What do you think that means, or do you have any other suggestions for me?
