Perhaps you refer to the Display Auto-lock setting - that determines how long an idle iPad screen will remain switched-on before the iPad will dim the display and lock iPad:
Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock - select from 2, 5, 10, 15 minutes - or Never
