iTunes issues on ACER laptop
2TB ACER Laptop iTunes Issues 16th April 2023
Please don’t reply to this if you use the phrase “Well I haven’t done this for a while but I think this is what you need to do…”. It is rarely helpful in my experience.
I recently got an upgrade to the 4GB RAM on my 2TB ACER laptop. The technician has installed an additional 8TB of RAM. In addition, he has installed a 2nd 2TB Hard Drive.
1.31TB on the original HD drive was made up of music files.
I have moved all other files to the new HD (C Drive). The technician had difficulty deleting all the non-music files from the original (D) drive so suggested I move all the music files to the C drive temporarily, reformat the old D drive, and then move all the music files back. I have done this and everything seems to be fine (all the music files seem to be there).
When he tried to setup iTunes, all the files & playlists seemed to be there but very few of the files were playable, the dreaded exclamation mark appearing on the lefthand side of almost all files. He wasn’t sure how to fix this. My music files are spread across a lot of folders within the music folder and I prefer to keep them that way (a lot are in iTunes Media, but many are not).
Yesterday I started manually dragging music folders into the top left hand “library” section of iTunes and this seemed to be working. The only issue was that all of the ratings weren’t coming with the music files which would mean that not only would I have to go and consolidate all the files using the software created by turingtest2 called “DeDuper” (which is fantastic) but also go and manually reinput all the ratings (the number of times I have done this and the hours I have wasted doing this over the years… OMG!).
As I was fiddling around last night, I’m not sure what I did but there were a few iTunes files in the C drive. Thinking they weren’t meant to be there I deleted them and now there is nothing in iTunes and iTunes
doesn’t open from the icon on the desktop (it comes up with the following message: “D:/Program Files/iTunes.exe This specified path does not exist. Check the path, and then try again). It opens if I go via the ‘start’ button but there is nothing in there.
I would happily pay someone for assistance but over the years I have learnt there are many iTunes “experts” out there but few who actually know what they are talking about.
Kind Regards
John S.
